Open day offers unique insight into life at learning disabilities service
A learning disabilities centre in Bidford-on-Avon, Warwickshire will be opening its doors to give the public an opportunity to find out more about life at the service.
The Bidford-on-Avon Resource Centre, which is run by Hft, a national charity supporting people with learning disabilities, currently supports around 50 people with various needs. Locally it offers person-centred services ranging from flexible day support to supported living at home – from a few hours a week to 24 hours a day. The emphasis is on creatively supporting people to live with greater levels of independence and personal fulfilment.
On June 16, visitors will be able to see first-hand the activities that take place at the centre and find out about other Hft services. There will be opportunities to join cooking, gardening, art and music sessions, and to take part in personalised technology and therapy demonstrations. Visitors will also be free to take a tour of the service, and talk to staff and the people they support.
For those who are interested in getting further involved, there will the chance to find out about voluntary and paid roles, which currently include relief work as well as full and part-time positions.
Jeannette Rix, Regional Manager, said: “We’ve been part of the community here in Bidford-on-Avon for 27 years, so we feel it is important to create an opportunity for the community and other professionals to see and experience everything that we and the people we support have achieved.”
“I’d encourage anyone who is interested in what we do to come along - whether it’s to find out about support for a loved one, volunteering or employment opportunities.”
The open day takes place on June 16, 9.30 - 3.15pm, at Hft Bidford-on-Avon Resource Centre, 7 Waterloo Road, Bidford-on-Avon, B50 4JP.
