Christmas comes early for Hft Bolton
The Hft Harrowbys service in Farnworth, Bolton, has received several early Christmas presents, thanks to the hard work of local young people.
The gifts, which included an outdoor barbecue, a bingo machine and sensory lights, were donated by a group of unemployed young people undertaking training with the Prince’s Trust.
The enterprising teens chose to raise money for the service as part of their Final Team Challenge, which is the culmination of a 12-week course run for the Prince’s Trust by the Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service. They also spent a day at the service, taking part in crafts activities and supporting a fundraising drive in the community.
Service Manager Dawn Atherton explained that the group asked staff to provide a ‘wish list’ of items that would brighten up the building and enhance the lives of the people supported at the service. They then spent a day packing bags for customers at a nearby supermarket, which allowed them to purchase every item on the list, with money left over for a donation of £140.
“The people we support at Harrowbys loved meeting the Prince’s Trust group,” said Dawn, “and it was really motivating for the young people themselves. A couple said they’d like to volunteer with us, and one young man told us he now wants to become a support worker.”
The service is looking forward to welcoming a new Prince’s Trust team in February next year.
