At Hft Hertfordshire & Essex, we support people with learning disabilities across the Hertfordshire and Essex regions with one common goal: to support them in living the life they choose.
Our services include supported living, domiciliary care, supported employment, volunteering, day opportunities and registered care, specialising in Autistic Spectrum Disorder
We provide person-centered residential care services for people with learning disabilities in several properties across the area.
Accommodation is suited to the needs of people with higher support needs, including those with age related conditions such as dementia, people on the autistic spectrum or those who have complex communication and behavioural needs.
We support a number of people with learning disabilities in supported living accommodation around the area, either in their own homes or in shared accommodation.
There are plenty of different leisure activities in the local area for the people we support, including:
- Cinema trips
- Social clubs
- Church groups
- Theatre trips
While at our Bradbury Resource Centre people can participate in a variety of different activities.
Work and learning
At our resource centre, we provide work and training opportunities for people with learning disabilities.
We additionally support a number of people to work or volunteer locally in a variety of roles.
Marianna is a volunteer at Oxfam and has been there for 3 years:-
“I like working at Oxfam. It is very important to help other people who are not very lucky and have no money. I like helping and going there; everyone is very nice”.
Jeremy is a volunteer for the Salvation Army and advocacy group Pohwer
“I like being a volunteer and helping other poor and disabled people. I like going there and talking to people, having a normal life. I also volunteer for Pohwer and I am in the process of setting up a self-advocacy group. I would like to have full time paid work in the future and I am actively looking for it”.
Friendship and dating
We can support people to make new friends, get involved in new activities, go on a date and perhaps build a relationship with a potential new boyfriend or girlfriend.
The people we support are actively involved in deciding what events we run, and in organising events. Some of our clubs and groups have been running for many years, which is only possible through their active involvement and support.
