Supported living and domiciliary care
We support people with learning disabilities around North Oxfordshire with varying needs either in their own homes, properties partly owned by Hft, or in properties owned by local housing associations.
“J wanted more independence. He wanted to move from the residential home where he was living because he wasn’t happy with the people he lived with and wanted to be closer to his family. He looked at a few homes, and found one he really wanted to live in. His new home uses personalised technology which helps keep him safe whilst promoting his independence.”
“D liked the police. After working with D, his family, and the psychologist at the local learning disability support team, we thought that if we could make positive use of his interest in the police, it could be a real motivator for him. D was asked if he would like to go to the station to wash the police cars. He was keen to do this and now helps out there once a week.”
Supported employment and volunteering
We can help people find jobs or volunteering roles, allowing them to build confidence and independence, become involved with the local community, develop new skills and earn money.
People we support work in gardening jobs, volunteer at a local falconry centre, and help out at a care home.
We work closely with local colleges to set up work experience and volunteering opportunities for the people we support.
G wanted to help others as she felt she was lucky to receive the support she did. She loves walking and decided she wanted to organise a sponsored walk to support Sports Relief. We supported her to find a walk suitable for people of all abilities, with resting places and the right sort of facilities. G invited all her friends, and was supported to create event posters. Her walk raised over £500. As well as helping others, as she’d wanted, G also learnt about planning and organising and gained more confidence in herself.
We support people to attend courses at local colleges, including photography and cooking amongst other subjects.
We can support people to take part in activities across the area, everything from swimming to crafts, dance, drama and theatre, visiting local attractions or going fishing.
