At Hft Bedfordshire, we support people with learning disabilities across Bedfordshire with one common goal: to support them in living the life they choose. Our support services include residential care, supported living and leisure activities.
We provide person-centred residential care services for people with learning disabilities in several properties across the area.
Accommodation is suited to the needs of people with higher support needs, including those with age related conditions such as dementia, people on the autistic spectrum or who have complex communication and behavioural needs.
We support a number of people with learning disabilities in supported living accommodation around the area, either in their own homes or in shared accommodation.
There are plenty of different leisure activities in the local area for the people we support, including:
- Cinema trips
- Social clubs
- Church groups
- Theatre trips
- Nights out at local nightclubs, including the “Groovy Gecko” club
At our resource centre in Shefford you can get involved in a range of activities, including anything from writing or playing music to learning how to belly dance or do yoga.
Work and learning
At our resource centre, we provide work and training opportunities for people with learning disabilities.
We additionally support a number of people to work or volunteer locally in a variety of roles.
“I like working with animals - Matt”
“I like helping with money and giving out change and receipts - Emma”
Friendship and dating
We can support people to make new friends, get involved in new activities, go on a date and perhaps meet a boyfriend or girlfriend.
Local groups include a men’s group, where a group of lads get together to bond, build friendships and take part in a wide range of activities – from Laser Quest to Crayfishing.
The people we support are actively involved in deciding what events we run, and in organising events. Some of our clubs and groups have been running for many years, which has only been possible through their active involvement and support.
If you’d like to find out more about how we can help with your support needs, please get in touch.
