Our work

At Hft Bristol and Bath we support people with learning disabilities in the Bath and Bristol area in many different ways but with one common goal: to support them in living the life they choose.

Our work

Supported living
In Bristol, we offer supported living services for people with learning disabilities in several locations around the city. We also support people in their own flats and homes locally.

In Bath, we support people with Individual Budgets in their own homes, or in sheltered housing.

AM said: “I enjoy and am proud to live in my own flat. It is nice to have my own front door key to let myself in and out and I can also invite who I like to come to my flat and also have my own space.”

Domiciliary care
Hft Bristol and Bath is registered with the CQC to provide Domiciliary Care.

Specialist support
We can support people with complex needs or brain injuries. Support is personalised to individual needs, and we are able to provide 24 hour one-to-one support.

Friendships                                                                                                                              If you have a learning disability, it can be difficult to make new friends and get out and about to meet new people. At Hft Bristol and Bath we support a number of people to attend Friendship groups run by the local learning disability charity “People First”.

Involvement
The people we support are actively involved in having their say about the support they receive through Speak Out Groups and house meetings.

BM said that she likes the Speak Out Group meetings and that she can say things but some people speak more than others. She also said that she likes the conferences held for people Hft support at other places.

Leisure
The people we support can get involved with a variety of local clubs.

MC was supported by staff at Hft Bristol and Bath to go on a holiday to Centre Parcs. A lot of planning and support went into to find the right holiday for him as he is nervous of busy roads and doesn’t like to walk around in busy areas.

MC felt that Centre Parcs would be the ideal place for a holiday as it is quite a peaceful place away from traffic. He chose to go at a quiet time of year so that it wasn’t too busy.

During his stay there MC became more and more confident about going out and walked to the different venues within the resort. He said he had a really good time. Since he got back from his holiday he walks to the local shops with staff support, something he wouldn’t have had the confidence to do before the holiday. Staff are aleady working with him to plan his next holiday.

New service development
We have developed two new services at the request of people looking for a support service at home. We helped with funding assessments, benefits and housing, and are also providing on-going support.
