Living in a place of his own - James
Being able to live in his own place with friends has helped James to feel more in charge of his life.
James moved out of registered care near Leeds a few years ago and has never looked back. He chose to live with three of his friends so Hft helped find them all a suitable house where they could be safe but independent, near shops and public transport.
The house has been fitted out with Personalised Technology, such as thumb print locks so they don’t need a key. It means Hft staff can spend their time with James and his friends focusing on the things that really matter – like tracking down the latest Harry Potter books in the bookshop round the corner or going on the bus to the local bowling centre.
Having responsibility for their own flat, keeping it clean and tidy, doing their own shopping and banking locally has meant the friends have much greater control over their day. They are safe and supported but in charge of their lives now – and loving it.
