Family carers

Who is a family carer?

A family carer is someone who has a lifelong relationship with a person who has a learning disability, autism or both - usually a family member or close friend. They have an active interest in the wellbeing of that individual, wherever they live.

If you have a relative or friend with a learning disability and would like support and information, Hft’s national Family Carer Support Service can help.

  • We provide one-to-one support by phone, email and letter
  • We run regular workshops so you can find out about the things that matter to you as a family carer
  • We develop a huge range of family carer focused resources about issues that affect you.
